At the heart of our Five Minute Gallop is Thredbo Valley Distillery, the home of Wildbrumby Schnapps and a Snowy Mountains experience like no other.
Thredbo Valley Distillery brings the best of Austrian Schnapps and gives it an Australian flavour. It is perfect to visit all year round. Made at the distillery, Wildbrumby Schnapps is great on warm summer or spring days. Here at the distillery you can discover the magic of the distilling process and learn all about this very special spirit.
Owned and operated by Brad and Monika Spalding, the distillery is a culmination of passion and family traditions. Monika is Austrian born and has distilling in her blood: her grandfather made schnapps near Kitzbühel. Brad's family ran a local fruit shop, deli, café and the Granya Hotel. His passion for skiing saw Brad spend many years working on both the local and Austrian ski fields as an instructor. During his time in Austria, he gained a fine appreciation of Austrian schnapps. So it seemed a natural progression that together they would run a schnapps distillery!
At the distillery you can get up close to the impressive machinery and find out what it takes to make a bottle of schnapps. Thorough planning and research allows Brad to know the ideal selection of fruit to use for the various schnapps that is created at the distillery: the special release raspberry liqueur is made using fruit from Wildbrumby's own raspberry patches.
The schnapps produced are liqueur and premium. Liqueur schnapps are extremely popular: the sweetness of fruit is instantly recognisable. Premium schnapps is often preferred by traditional schnapps drinkers due to a drier finish. Recently the distillery released it's first vodka, Kosciuszko Vodka. All schnapps is available for sale at the Distillery Door.
And of course there is even more to do at the distillery than schnapps. On site there is a café which offers delicious meals often created to complement a wildbrumby schnapps or a cocktail of Brad's creation. With plenty of seating outside, summer days can be leisurely passed.
And if you crave a coffee, we serve some of the best in the Snowy Mountains's. Using Toby's Estate beans and milk prepared to perfection it's the ideal accompaniment with breakfast or our handmade Austrian cakes. The café also has Paulaner beer on tap, and a range of wines and non-alcoholic drinks for visitors to enjoy.
So drop in for a free tasting tour and a bite to eat. We'd love to see you.
